The Senior Program for the North Slope Elders is a program for anyone 60 and older. The NSB Senior program has an application to fill out then a Senior card is issued. There are several benefits with the NSB Senior Card, and these are 10% discounted off food items at Alaska Commercial (AC) and Stuaqpak (on Wednesdays only), and a 10% discount of purchase of gas any day of the week at the Eskimo Inc. Gas Station.

The Senior Lunch Program provides lunch to Elders Monday-Friday from 11:00 – 1:00PM with the exception of Borough Holidays. Elders are welcome to invite guests, however there is a fee for non-elder guest lunches. To be eligible for our Meals-On-Wheels (home delivered meals) program the person must be 60 years of age or older and provide a doctor’s note stating the individual or spouse is homebound or disabled.

The Senior Program also provides transportation services in each of the North Slope communities. Transportation services run seven days a week. Limited transportation services maybe provided during special events and borough holidays. Elders may call to request rides to events, the airport, the school or senior center for meals, the store, post office, clinic, or other destinations. The Senior Van services are a pickup / drop off service. Drivers do not wait for any passengers with the exception of the Store and Post Office.

Elder activities are scheduled by the Client Service staff and can be reached at by calling 907-852-0276. Some of the activities are Snertz, Singing, Cake Walk, and Bingo. The Client Service Assistant is also available to assist Elders with filling out paperwork for various agencies such as Medicaid, Public Assistance, Social Security, WIC, ect.

The Senior Program provides independent living residences for elders in Anaktuvuk Pass, Kaktovik, Nuiqsut, Point Hope, Wainwright, and Utqiagvik. The Utqiagvik Senior Center has 20 permanent apartments and 8 temporary apartments for residency. In the communities of Anaktuvuk Pass, Kaktovik, Nuiqsut, Point Hope, and Wainwright there are 5 permanent apartments for residency.
