Key Services

Anchored in Utqiaġvik, the department operates a State of Alaska Community Jail facility and a 24-hour Dispatch Center, providing emergency communication and coordination. It also maintains sub-stations in each of the seven remote villages and Prudhoe Bay, ensuring that law enforcement services are accessible throughout the region. The department is organized into three divisions to streamline operations:

1. Central Office The Central Office is the administrative hub, led by the Chief of Police, who collaborates with community leaders to ensure that services meet the needs of each community. This division oversees training, hiring, contracts, police records, budgeting, and citizen complaints, ensuring accountability and smooth operations.

2. Field Operations Field Operations staff include uniformed police officers, detectives, correctional officers, and D.A.R.E. officers. Their primary duties encompass responding to calls, conducting investigations, proactive patrols, community outreach, and managing the Borough’s jail facility. Detectives focus on drug and alcohol-related offenses, while the D.A.R.E. program promotes drug and alcohol resistance education within schools across the Borough.

3. Support Services Support Services manages essential behind-the-scenes functions that keep the department running. This includes maintenance, data systems, radio communication, and the critical 24-hour Dispatch Unit, which coordinates emergency responses for police, fire, and search and rescue personnel.

Through a blend of proactive law enforcement, community engagement, and essential support services, the North Slope Borough Police Department strives to ensure a safe and secure environment for all residents.
