General information
The Field Operations staff includes uniformed Police Officers, Detectives, Correctional Officers, and a D.A.R.E. Officer.
The Divisions’ primary functions include responding to calls for service, criminal investigations, proactive patrols, community involvement, public education, and the housing and care of inmates.
Field Operations patrol officers are among the most visible representatives of the Department. They are often the first personnel notified of a crisis and the first to respond.
The Detective Unit focuses on offenses involving the importation and sale of drugs and alcohol. Detectives also conduct and/or assist with major crimes investigation.
The Corrections Unit staff runs the North Slope Borough’s jail facility. This unit is operated and funded through a contract with the State of Alaska. Corrections Officers are responsible for the care and safekeeping of inmates.
The Drug Awareness Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.) Program is taught full-time in Uqiagvik. Several officers offer the D.A.R.E. Program in their village, while other officers work closely with their schools to provide alcohol and drug prevention information to the students and staff.
