Payroll is a section of the Accounting Division. The main responsibility of Payroll is to generate paychecks for the North Slope Borough employees including payroll checks for the Assembly members, fire volunteers, election workers and board members. Customer service in payroll goes beyond providing accurate and timely payment information to employees. In addition to processing timesheets, Personnel Action forms and other forms such as direct deposits, payroll deductions and check requests, wide range of responsibility also includes practice of confidentiality; payroll knowledge to ensure compliance  on Federal and State law; payroll processing in accordance to the North Slope Borough Rules and Regulations and Borough Wide Policies; and implementation of the North Slope Borough Code of Ordinances that influence certain aspect of payroll check runs.

Payroll builds and maintains close partnership with Human Resources and Budget; work closely with MIS on AS400 payroll issues; coordinates with Accounting and A&F Central for payroll checks distribution and check requests; and interacts with other departments for general payroll matters. Other scope of responsibility includes dealing with outside entities like the Internal Revenue Service, Child Support Enforcement Division, agencies on student loans and court garnishments, and companies that handles housing and employees’ financial assistance.
